WARRINGTON Wolves suffered their third straight defeat as a late drop goal gave Wakefield victory at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday.

Wolves had been beaten by Hull Kingston Rovers and Harlequins in their last two games and Wildcats completed a hat-trick of shock defeats for Paul Cullen's men.

Logan Swann gave Wolves the lead when he received Lee Briers' 10th-minute pass and beat David Solomona after Wakefield had given away two cheap penalties.

Briers then extended the home side's advantage to eight points by landing a penalty after having his run blocked by prop Darrell Griffin.

But Wildcats' comeback began in the 22nd minute when Solomona charged past Briers and Swann before finding the supporting Jamie Rooney.

Five minutes later Semi Tadulala's brilliant one-handed pick-up allowed him to get on the end of Ben Jeffries' kick and score, with Colum Halpenny making it 14-8 to Wakefield at half time after being fed by Tom Saxton.

Rooney's 62nd-minute penalty then gave Wildcats an eight-point lead, which was halved four minutes later as Mark Gleeson found a way between two defenders to score from dummy half.

Richie Barnett then finished off a sweeping move involving Briers, Simon Grix and Brent Grose to level the match with eight minutes remaining.

But Rooney's drop goal restored Wakefield's lead in the 80th minute and Briers missed the chance to win the match for Wolves by pushing a penalty wide of the post in the second minute of stoppage time.
