MORE than 200 primary schoolchildren took part in a Mini World Cup Competition at Moss Farm leisure centre under the watchful eye of Northwich Victoria manager Steve Burr.
The Vics boss paraded the team's Conference North winners' trophy and also presented awards to the tournament winners.
Winner in the boys' event was Charles Darwin Primary School in Castle, who appeared as the Ivory Coast, while the girl's trophy was won by Weaverham Forest Street School, who played as 1998 World Cup winners France.
A team from Sandiway Primary School, representing the USA, was given the Fair Play Award.
Borough councillor John Grimshaw said: "I think this was a wonderful event, played out in glorious sunshine with teams who displayed great skill, even at such a young age."
He added: "As a council we are committed to encouraging not only tomorrow's sporting stars, but all our youngsters to become more active."
The tournament, which was hosted by Vale Royal Borough Council's sports development team, had help from 30 students from Mid-Cheshire College.
