SUPANAN Vera Newton received some right royal treatment at the weekend, courtesy of the borough council and the Guardian.
Vera, aged 80, of Walthall Street won the competition to find South Cheshire's top gran after being nominated by her granddaughter Tracy Brookes.
As a reward Vera enjoyed a special day on Saturday when she was chauffer driven to Nantwich market in the mayor's Bentley and received chocolates and flowers from a Queen Elizabeth lookalike.
She will also enjoy a meal for two at the Crown Hotel in Nantwich and a dinner dance evening for two at Alvaston Hall Hotel.
In making her nomination, Tracy described her gran as 'the strongest and most loving person' she has ever known.
Vera, who has battled back from two forms of cancer, said: "I really enjoyed myself and had an absolutely lovely day. I met the Queen lookalike, who was a really nice lady, and we turned quite a few heads in town.
"I did not expect to be nominated at all and it came as a great surprise. I was a bit apprehensive at first but when I saw how much trouble people had gone to I thought it was lovely to be appreciated."
