AT school Mervyn Ward was told he could do better, but more than three decades later he still cannot put his study books down.
The 51-year-old qualified accountant and audit manager has just picked up his sixth degree and says he has no plans to stop learning yet.
Mr Ward, from Cinnamon Brow, earned his first degree back in the early 1980s when he completed a BA in business studies.
In 1990, he was awarded a Masters of Science in employment studies. In 1996 he achieved a Masters of Arts in education management and leadership studies.
In 2003 he completed a MBA (masters of business administration). In 2005, he earned a Masters of Science again in audit management and consultancy.
His latest degree, which he was awarded last week from the Open University, was a Masters of Education.
Mr Ward said: "I was probably very average at school, a late developer.
"I think the turning point for me was when I started working and saw that other people with better qualifications had better job prospects."
