"SHE was the best one for me, and I was the best one for her."
Norman Wilford knew he had met the woman he was going to spend the rest of his life with when he met Edith.
He saw her at a New Year's party then took her on a date to a vaudeville show at the Royal Theatre in Rylands Street.
A few months later they were married at St Elphin's Church - and they are still married 60 years on.
"When you see the person you want you seem to click straight away and there's no straying or anything else," said Mr Wilford, who is aged 80 like his wife.
"That's because we both see in each other the qualities we had years ago. She is still pretty and she doesn't look her age.
"I won't go out without her and she won't go out without me. We both have a good laugh together."
The couple celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary on July 22.
They now live in Bond Close, Sankey Bridges - they used to live in Higham Avenue in Dallam. Mr Wilford was brought up in Bewsey and Mrs Wilford was brought up in Orford.
Mr Wilford worked as an engineer for the RAF, JB Mellor, Crosfields and Unilever, and Mrs Wilford worked at Alliance Boxworks in Orford Lane.
They have two children, Kenneth, aged 59, who lives in Dallam, and Patricia, aged 56, who lives in Old Hall, and five grand children, nine great grand children, and three great great grandchildren.
