FOOTBALL fans at Lowton Junior and Infants School believe England have got what it takes to go all the way in the World Cup.

The Newton and Golborne Guardian spoke to a group of year three and four pupils to see what they thought of the tournament in Germany.

Jamie Hillidge, aged nine, believes England have improved as a team since the European Championships in Portugal.

He said: "I think England will win - they've got better players this time.

"I support Manchester United, and Rooney and Beckham are my favourite players for England.

"I play football with my dad and my little brother but I prefer playing rugby - my dad's no good in net."

Ellie Leyland, aged seven, has been getting in the football mood by having a kick-about with her family.

She said: "I've been playing football with my cousin Danny - I'm a Bolton Wanderers fan.

"I'm going to watch the England games with my dad."

But not everyone will be glued to the television.

Timothy Cross, aged nine, says he would rather be outside playing football himself!

The nine-year-old said: "I like playing football but I don't really like watching it."
