BUSINESSES across Warrington could reap the benefits if the England football team have a good run in the World Cup.

Colin Daniels, chief executive of Warrington Chamber of Commerce, says the economy within the borough could be boosted by tens of thousands of pounds if the national team keeps up its winning ways.

After England's win against Paraguay on Saturday afternoon, pubs and clubs right across the town were packed out and taxi firms were booked up until late in the evening.

And establishments will be hoping for a repeat performance when England takes on Trinidad and

Tobago today, Thursday.

Mr Daniels says part of the success is due to the planning which many businesses have put into preparing for the event.

He said: "This will have a big impact for business across Warrington. The bars and pubs have got themselves well organised by setting up offers.

"All in all, these things could boost the economy in the town by a lot of money; we are talking tens of thousands of pounds.

"If England go all the way, that could bring more benefits, so I am keeping my fingers crossed we have a good run in the cup from a business point of view as well!"
