In response to the Croft resident's letter in the Guardian this week, about the M6 - does he also realise that there is an impending planning application due to be submitted to St Helens Council shortly?

This is for the largest rail freight terminal in the country on the old Parkside site which reverted to green belt when the pit closed - an agreement made many years ago.

The locals believe it is just a front to build a huge lorry park on this valuable land. We are told by David Watts, MP for St Helens, that this will "lessen" the traffic on our roads. I fail to see how all these lorries congregating on the M6 (the designated route we are assured) will help at all. How can it? They have to travel on the M6, East Lancs, A49 etc to get on there in the first place.

The figure for "new" jobs keeps altering, but the developer will not guarantee any new jobs for local unemployed.

Residents of Newton-le-Willows are obviously campaigning to make people aware of this, so please, join the revolt if asked, or it will be too late. We have asked questions about what would happen if there were any accidents on the motorway and road repairs, but we are told, "it won't be a problem". It might not be for Mr Watts in his Westminster office, but it will be for anyone who does use the local road network.
