LEWIS Carroll wrote about a make believe world called Wonderland.
In his letter to the Warrington Guardian, June 1, Lord Daresbury, with his idealised view of Creamfields, gives the impression that he is writing from that very rabbit-hole.
He is one of a few members of this community in favour of Creamfields.
The vast majority do not want this type of event to take place here and 500 letters to Halton Borough Council objecting to the grant of a licence give clear testimony to this.
For your readers' information 45 per cent of the actual event site is in Warrington.
The hearing into the licence application is now fixed for June 27.
The residents who have objected will be voicing their opinions then, but in the meantime we would like to respond to a number of points made by his Lordship in his letter.
He says that Creamfields' noise consultants have dealt with the issue of noise.
Well, let us quote you from their report which states that 'a limited number of isolated properties (incidentally estimated at 200 by Warrington Borough Council according to press reports) will be subject to levels of noise which exceed the environmental noise limits'.
Does he not realise that some houses are only 200 yards from the site and that this excessive noise is planned to go on until 6am?
He implies that security won't be a problem.
Does he really expect that an influx of 49,000 people into our area will go off without a hitch?
Is this why there will be 1,000 police and security personnel on hand and why their HQ is to be sited right outside his house?
He says there will be benefits to the community, echoing statements made by 'business leaders' and 'tourism chiefs'.
We do not doubt that event goers are destined to spend an average £100 per head, but with tickets priced at £54 and with bar and refreshment revenues going to Creamfields and taken back to Liverpool, won't there be precious little left over to be spent locally despite assertions that £3.5 million will be pumped into the economies of Halton and Warrington?
If Lord Daresbury is really serious about community benefits, how about him investing his share of the proceeds in facilities for the community.
Now that would be wonderland!
