LOCAL cycling sensation James Williamson is on a winning streak as he chases a ride in the Tour of Britain.
The 24-year-old from Shavington maintained his fine 2006 form with success in rounds five and seven of the Recycling.co.uk Road Race League.
Sunday saw victory over seven laps of the gruelling 90km Bole Hill circuit near Doveholes in Buxton.
Blistering heat didn't deter a leading pack of eight riders that became one when he made his move on lap five.
Attacking the final 24km of very demanding terrain, he quickly built up a lead of 30 seconds that eventually increased to 1:46 by the finish.
It was a great result after Williamson saw off around 50 riders in the 60mile Elite race on flat country roads, close to his home patch on June 4.
He got the job done some 42 seconds clear of the chasing field as average speeds hovered over 27mph during the 12 laps of a five-mile circuit around Byley, near Holmes Chapel.
It was all action from the off with groups of two and three riders breaking away from the bunch on the first lap.
By the second, a group of 10 had emerged ahead at the front with Williamson in the mix as the pacesetters remained about a minute clear for the majority of the race.
As the gap began to close, the local lad made his move and with two laps to go he broke away on an uphill drag with no-one else on his wheel.
The rest of the group were all but shot as the chasing pack made up ground and created an 18-strong group.
Williamson proved a class apart, out on his own for the remainder and crossing the finish over 40 seconds clear.
It was another fine result for the emerging star who is now ranked 15th in the National Elite.
After spending the last three years racing in France, he started 2006 perfectly with victory in the opening race of the national calendar.
The Agisko-Dart-Cycling.tv rider had his arms aloft in the 41st Perfs Pedal, staged in Hampshire back in February.
Next up is the 124-mile National Road Race Championships in Yorkshire, next weekend.
Another good performance will boost his chances of competing at the Tour of Britain, starting at the end of August.
