A MOTORIST who hit a pedestrian outside a Great Sankey pub has been given a conditional discharge.

His victim had been waiting to cross Liverpool Road after leaving the Butcher's Arms at midnight on February 16.

Warrington Magistrates' Court was told Robert Kidd, of Berwick Gardens, Ellesmere Port, hit the man while he was waiting in a bollard area for the car to pass him.

The 39-year-old driver told magistrates he thought he had hit the central reservation.

The court heard: "The pedestrian looked and could see vehicle lights coming towards him. As the car got closer, he saw it swerve towards him and he recalls a loud explosion. It was the car hitting him.

"He recalls lying in the road looking into the sky. He dragged himself to the pavement, despite being in considerable pain."

Extensive damage was caused to the windscreen and front of the car.

Kidd asked the court not to take away his licence because he was trying to get back into his music and needed his licence to get around.

He was given a 12 month conditional discharge, eight points on his licence and ordered to pay £20 court costs after pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention.
