ONE of Warrington's most senior residents has set an example to us all by living an independent life until the age of 102.
And now Katrine Gray, known as Trixie to family and friends, continues to live a contented life in Heathfield Nursing Home, Grappenhall, where she celebrated her 103rd birthday on June 8.
Mavis Thompson, Trixie's niece, said: "Heathfield put on a lovely reception and really did her proud and there was a cake specially made by Waterfields."
Trixie was born in Kent in 1903, the fifth child in a family of eight, and moved to Warrington in 1909 when Bridge Foot was being rebuilt, as her father was a joiner.
Up until three months ago, Trixie lived independently on Bridge Lane, Appleton, with some help from Nightingales and two of her nieces, Mrs Thompson and Pat Molyneux.
Mrs Thompson, of Stockton Heath, said: "I don't really know what her secret to long life is but she's quite feisty and very determined. She's an independent lady who enjoys a glass of wine."
Over the years, Trixie has had jobs in Warrington as a secretary and a medical receptionist.
She was also particularly proud to operate quite a large allotment during the Second World War.
"She has always been a keen gardener," Mrs Thompson added.
