BEING stuck in Mongolia for a year is itself a pretty frightening prospect for most.

But daring volunteer Pam Vallance is jumping 12,000 feet out of a plane just to get there.

She has been invited to help an Aids charity in the country but first needs to raise £900.

And the 23-year-old Lymm woman - who is currently studying in Nottingham - hopes to raise the cash with a sponsored parachute jump on June 11.

She said: "I'm very scared - I'm doing it because I really need to raise the money."

Now Pam, of Bollin Close, is keen to bring her talents to a range of projects in the Asian country.

British organisation Voluntary Service Overseas has selected her to help Mongol Vision - a charity based in capital Ulaanbaatar battling against sexually transmitted disease in the country.

Pam, who attended Lymm High School until 2001, said: "I want to use skills I've already developed to help people elsewhere.

"I'd be doing research on people's needs, lobbying the government, helping colleges with literacy and educating about sexual health."

Pam's fundraising has got off to a good start but she still has a long way to go.

"I've already been sponsored more than £300, so just £600 to go," she said.
