YEAR 11 students from Newton have 'graduated' at a special ceremony at Liverpool FC.
Students from Newton Community High School gathered at Anfield to celebrate the completion of a Transitions project run by Edge Hill University - the lead institution of Aimhigher.
Aimhigher is a Government initiative to encourage youngsters under-represented in higher education to take up study opportunities at universities and colleges.
Transitions, which began in February, has seen students from schools across the borough take part in events focused on raising aspirations, attainment levels and team-building.
Linzi Garratt, Aimhigher project officer, said: "Students have been involved in an outdoor adventure day, a visit to the Fire Training Academy, a Directions Day at Edge Hill and other events which have stretched their abilities and tested their team-work skills.
"It's been a great experience for them all - they've mixed well with each other and many now see higher education as something they would like to experience."
The students received certificates and prizes at an award ceremony led by Edge Hill's vice-chancellor John Cater and director of Aimhigher Greater Merseyside Emi Onuara.
And the students also enjoyed a tour of the world-famous stadium and let their hair down for a buffet and disco!
