POLICE are appealing for information after a seven-year-old boy was left with a fractured skull and broken leg when he was knocked over by an off road motorbike.

The incident happened at Bradbury Road at 9.30pm on Saturday when the motorbike, being driven by a 21-year-old man, struck the child outside the Spar Shop.

The boy was taken to Leighton Hospital by ambulance and as the Guardian went to press was described as being in a serious condition.

The 21-year-old driver of the motorbike has not been arrested but police have issued an appeal for witnesses.

Det Sgt Dave Snasdell, from Winsford Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: "We are waiting to question the 21-year-old man and find out the extent of the young boy's injuries."

Det Sgt Snasdell believes the incident should warn people over the dangers of off road motorbikes.

He said: "We have been continuing to stop and seize motorbikes being ridden in an illegal or anti-social way.

"This just highlights some of the problems recurring and I would ask people to take more responsibility.

"A young boy has been seriously injured by an off road motorbike and, although I do not want to attach any blame whatsoever at this point, I hope people take it as a warning."
