AN award-winning classic drama unfolds at the Regent Theatre in a new production of Shelagh Delaney's A Taste Of Honey.
Set in working class Salford in the late 1950s, this poignant drama follows the story of a mother and daughter and one young woman's unshakeable optimism in the face of adversity.
Jo is a young girl with very grown up problems and when her floozie of a mother marries impulsively, she finds herself out on the streets.
With nowhere to go, Jo turns to Geoffrey, a gay co-worker, who has his own issues to deal with and together they find a room.
But complications arise when, after a one night stand with Jimmy - a black sailor who claims to love her - Jo finds herself pregnant.
Geoffrey takes over the preparations for the baby's birth, assuming the paternal role, and for the first time it seems her life is back on track.
However Jo's domestic bliss is disturbed as her domineering alcoholic mother reappears in her life, turning her world upside down once again.
Samantha Giles (Bernice in Emmerdale) and Bruno Langley (Todd in Coronation Street) star in this new version of A Taste of Honey, which plays at the Stoke theatre from June 26 to July 1.
Tickets are priced between £7 and £19.50 and can be booked by ringing 0870 060 6649.
