MUCH-LOVED grandmother Vera Newton will be a VIP guest at Nantwich Market this Saturday after being chosen as Crewe and Nantwich's first SUPANAN.
The eighty-year-old, from Walthall Street in Crewe, was nominated by her granddaughter, Tracy Brookes who described her as 'the strongest, bravest and most loving person she has ever known'.
Vera, who has battled back from two forms of cancer, will now enjoy a special day and a host of prizes after being chosen as SUPANAN in the competition run by Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council in conjunction with the Crewe and Nantwich Guardians.
On Saturday she will travel in style when she is picked up by the mayor's Bentley and driven to Nantwich Market where she will meet Queen Elizabeth lookalike Elizabeth Richard and be presented with chocolates, flowers and various goodies.
After that Vera will be off to The Crown Hotel to enjoy a special meal for two with her granddaughter Tracy.
Another of the prizes she can look forward to is a dinner dance for two at the Alvaston Hall Hotel.
A delighted Vera said on Tuesday: "It was such a shock, a really nice surprise. I had no idea that the family had even entered me for the competition.
"It's great to have won it because it's the first time I've ever won anything like this.
"I'm really looking forward to Saturday. It will be a big change for me and it will be so nice to be part of such a special occasion."
