A DRIVER is in hospital with serious injuries after his car was involved in a head-on smash with another vehicle.

Firefighters had to cut the roof off a silver Volkswagen Golf to allow paramedics to rescue the 39-year-old man.

Police say the collision occurred in Castlefields Avenue North, close to Caesars Close, at around 5.15pm on Sunday.

The 36-year-old female driver of the other car, a black Audi TT, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The man was taken to Warrington Hospital with chest and facial injuries. His condition was described as 'serious but stable'.
