GRANGE'S three-wicket win against Saughall threw them back in contention at the top end of Cheshire Building Society Cricket Alliance Division Two.
A disciplined performance by the Grange bowlers restricted the Chester side to 143 for 7.
Dave Seed, 3 for 48, was the most effective bowler.
In reply, a stand of 50 between Williams and Dave Mason, 45, broke the back of the target.
Successive boundaries from Nick Houghton and Phil McCue rounded off a three-wicket win.
Grange's second XI gained an excellent win at Mossley.
Grange racked up a commanding 233 for 3 on the back of a superb 122 from opener Carl Evans, with skipper Alan Ayling also carving out an unbeaten 60.
A century stand from the Mossley openers threw the game into the melting pot but young spinner Reece Hampton effectively won the game for his side, bagging his first five-wicket haul for the club.
This weekend the first XI travel to Audlem and the second XI play Audlem at home at 2pm.
