Drop Dead Gorgeous, a new comedy drama, filmed in Runcorn and starring top soap actors, starts on BBC3 on Sunday.
Producer Juliet Charlesworth said picturesque Weston village was the ideal setting.
"We needed a location that had an unforgettable character of its own and which was a small enough town for this piece of news to spread like wild fire so that Ashley would become an instant celebrity.
"We visited Runcorn and immediately fell in love with the place. It had all the right energy and beauty. Our little terrace of houses is an amazing find, with heavy industry at the bottom of the road, stretches of water and twinkling lights at night time and churches and horses at the top of the road."
Professional model Sinead Moynihan, 24, who plays Ashley, said it was exactly how she was discovered.
"I can remember how I felt and the emotions I went through and that's what I've tried to bring to the role."
Kathryn Hunt - Angela Nelson in Coronation Street - is her mum, a Runcorn dinner lady, who suddenly finds herself thrust into a new celebrity world.
"The first two episodes are by Carmel Morgan who writes for Coronation Street and we just loved them," said Kathryn.
"They've got a bit of everything in them, they're fun and dramatic."
Lee Boardman, Jez Quigley in Coronation Street, plays ambitious agent Murray Priestman.
He said: "I was sent the scripts and I just thought 'wow'. I've never read such wonderful dialogue. It feels as if every scene I'm in has lines that I've waited years to say."
