NANTWICH Town player boss Steve Davis says the club is determined to build on last season's success.

Winning the FA Vase and equalling their best-ever finish of fourth has whetted the appetite for more in 2006/07.

And with their new £2million home at Kingsley Fields on the horizon, The Dabbers are intent on making a move by winning promotion from NWC Division, next term.

Davis says they've taken their first step towards achieving those aims by keeping the current crop together.

Nantwich's fabulous campaign didn't go unnoticed with several other non-league sides believed to be planning swoops.

But the club has acted to fend off any unwanted interest by tying up their stars on longer contracts.

"It looks like we're keeping all the lads together," explained Davis.

"Everyone's staying and everyone's happy.

"It was crucial to us and we all want to try and achieve even more next season.

"We're looking at the long term as a club and this was the first priority.

"We've extended some of those on contracts by another year and now we can start looking at what we need to add to the squad."

So the shopping list is being compiled, topped by another striker with Matt Blake recovering from his knee op.

The 23-year-old, who hit 15 goals last season, could be out until September with Nantwich determined to hit the ground running.

"We need another centre-half, another midfielder, a wide player and a striker," added Davis.

"Blakey looks as though he'll be out of pre-season and the first month.

"He's just had an operation on his knee like me, but he needed a little bit more work.

"I should be okay by the start of pre-season but Matt's on crutches for six weeks.

"He's a lot younger than me and his bones should heel a lot quicker.

"But we'll still need to bring in another striker to make sure we hit the ground running."

Thus the Dabbers have a lengthy list of pre-season games lined-up, around eight to help with preparations for the real deal.

"We've tried to spread our games out and we've got some good ones," continued Davis.

"We've also tried to add a couple of more games in the list in case we need to have a look at some trialists."
