A MULTI-million pound bid to revitalise the banks of the Mersey could be resurrected.
The scheme would see a Salford Quays-style development consisting of a bar, pub, restaurant and offices built on land owned by Mr Smith's nightclub.
The Warrington Guardian understands the development would be on land on Arpley Road, to the back of the club.
Permission was originally granted for the development in 2000. At the time, Warrington Borough Council officials said work to regenerate the Mersey area at Bridge Foot would be carried out after improvements to the Arts Quarter, Market Gate, Buttermarket Street and Horsemarket Street.
Work on all those areas has now been completed but the planning permission for the river bank development runs out on July 5 this year. The current application is asking the council to extend its consent for the club to build the project until July 5, 2008.
When the development was first proposed it was part of a larger scheme spearheaded by the borough council but the project was turned down for funding by the Millennium Commission.
A spokesman for Mr Smith's was unable to comment on the proposals.
