ROYAL mail bosses have confirmed that Lymm Post Office will stay at its Bridgewater Street base for the next 12 months.
The building has been sold to a private buyer and petitions and protests have already begun to keep the facility alive.
Now, after a meeting with Lymm Parish Council, the post office has made a commitment for the future and earned a short-term reprieve.
James Ashington, parish council chairman, said: "Lymm Parish Council is very concerned that a post office continues to operate in the centre of Lymm."
A temporary post master has now been appointed and Chris Roberts, rural transfer advisor for the post office, said the company was now looking for alternative accommodation in the centre of the village.
He added that it could remain at its current location if a new post master can be found. However, it is believed plans are afoot to turn the building into a bistro.
The potential loss of the facility has caused a storm of protest in the village.
As well as concerns from the
parish council, the issue sparked protests from staff at the sorting office - also based at Bridgewater Street.
Last week, members of the Communication Workers Union posted thousands of leaflets across the village.
Anyone interested in taking over as post master should contact the Post Office Agent Recruitment Centre on 0845 6016260.
