A MISLEADING piece of mail is being delivered to homes in Newton and Earlestown.
The letter gives residents the impression they have won either the Spanish Lottery or the European Lottery.
To claim their prize, the recipient is asked to provide their bank account and personal details and is told that around 10 per cent of their winnings will be remitted to a company called Ibero.
There is also a telephone number the recipient is asked to telephone.
The scam operates under the names including Euro Milliones Loteria International and La Primitiva Europea.
St Helens Council's trading standards department has warned residents not to give out bank and personal details in response.
If you receive these letters, forward them to the European Enforcement Team, Office of Fair Trading, Fleetbank House, 2 - 6 Salisbury Square, London EC4Y 8JX.
