A WINSFORD teenager pushed and bit his grandmother following an argument at her home.

Terry David Brown, of Grampian Way, appeared at Northwich Magistrates' Court on Friday where he was sentenced for assaulting his grandmother on March 28 and failing to surrender to the court on April 6 and May 3.

Miread Neesam, prosecuting, told the court the unemployed 18-year-old became aggressive towards Barbara Green after she had asked his friends to leave her house because they were setting off fireworks.

She said: "At about 5am she was woken by a loud bang which appeared to be fireworks which were going off outside.

"When she said she wanted his friends to leave he became abusive and was shouting and swearing at her.

"He began pushing her and asking what she was going to do about it. He pushed her violently on to the couch.

"He kept saying, 'as if, as if. I'll burn your house down. It's my house'.

"At around 6.50am she returned to see if he had calmed down. She asked him to leave and he became abusive and he pushed her on to the couch again and he bit her on the chin."

Daniel Brooks, defending, asked magistrates to consider the recommendations presented to them in a pre-sentence report.

Chairman of the bench Don Beckett described the assault as 'nasty' but said the courts would give Brown one last chance and ordered him to carry out 160 hours unpaid work.
