A NORTHWICH fireman has condemned the actions of arsonists in Castle who endangered the lives of a number of residents.
Pumps from the town station attended Peckforton Way, at 11.49am last Wednesday following reports of a fire in the block of flats.
A spokesman said: "Kids were seen taking tyres into the staircase of the flats and some time later someone set fire to them.
"This was an extremely dangerous situation as the stairwell was compromised, meaning first floor residents were not only affected by the smoke and fire but would have had to find an alternative means of escape.
"Police were requested to attend and I believe an investigation is now under way."
Smoke damage was caused to the property.
