MOTORISTS of Northwich, beware the road hog using the right hand lane on the downtown approach to Halfords roundabout then to exit the roundabout straight ahead towards Baron's Quay.

At this particular roundabout, under normal circumstances, and in the absence of lane markings, the left-hand lane is the only correct approach for straight ahead traffic (basic Highway Code rules).

Having entered the roundabout from the right hand lane, how does 'Safe Driver' (Guardian, May 31) expect to then exit the roundabout safely, towards Baron's Quay, without cutting across and endangering the life, limb and vehicle of the motorist alongside, correctly positioned on the left, heading for the same single lane exit?

Do they adopt the same manoeuvre on the return journey? In the interests of road safety, I urge 'Safe Driver' to leave their car at home until they understand the elementary principles of the Highway Code.

Meanwhile, they would do well to observe how the majority of drivers are quite capable of successfully negotiating our roundabouts correctly, without causing distress or road rage.
