WARRINGTON'S Liberal Democrats say more needs to be done to reduce waste and improve recycling.
As the council prepares a report on attempts to meet tough Government recycling targets, the Lib Dems told Monday's full council meeting that the UK lags far behind European counterparts.
Clr Ian Marks, leader, said: "We want all council departments to do more to cut down on their own waste but also to encourage others they deal with to reduce their waste too.
"We also want the council to bring forwards its own recycling initiatives such as kerbside collection at the earliest possible opportunity."
However the party was defeated in a motion to call for greater recycling.
Labour councillor Jeff Richards said the motion was premature and Labour councillors blocked the proposal.
