SANDBACH RUFC bounced back from disappointment with a 13-0 victory over Aspull.

Gutted after losing 34-12 to bogey side Wilmslow, the Bradwall Road Boys returned to winning ways, last Saturday.

They came close to a flying start with a brilliant break down the left wing by Dan Massey but he chose to go infield rather than put Nick Jerman in for a certain score.

Both teams missed penalty chances before the break while Lee Pickles also missed a drop goal in a half dominated by mistakes.

A more determined Sandbach resumed immediately on the attack and a backs move saw the Aspull defence part like the Red Sea for Lee Pickles to stroll under the posts untouched.

With the conversion added, home fans were expecting the floodgates to open but poor attacking and stout defence saw limited opportunities.

Both teams again missed penalties before Pickles finally found his direction to add two and wrapped up two points.

"Overall it's a good win for us with an improving performance and a strong boost to confidence," explained team manager Chris Watson.

"There is still someway to go to reach the levels achieved last season.

"Once this team starts to play as a joined-up unit, the points will flow and the performance levels will rise."

Victory keeps them sixth in South Lancs/Cheshire Division One.

Sandbach will be looking to leapfrog old rivals Hoylake with victory there on Saturday.
