SUPER sub Jimmy Costigan bagged a brace to get Crewe FC's season back on track.
The striker's second-half double secured the club's first win in five attempts with a much-needed 3-1 result at Broadheath Central, last Saturday.
Alan Brown and Graham Taylor both hacked efforts off the line as the hosts shaded a goalless first-half.
And it looked a case of here we go again when a defensive mix-up led to Broadheath's opener on 50 minutes.
Jon Dawson took Mark Blackburn's ball and rounded the keeper to level before Costigan turned the game in Crewe's favour.
A powerful header netted Liam O'Reilly's corner before a fantastic solo goal sealed success.
Costigan won the ball in the opposing half, rode a tackle and burst forward before smashing the ball beyond the keeper, ten minutes from time.
That three points puts Crewe FC back in touch with the MCL Division Two pacesetters while Costigan pressed his claims for a start.
Boss Ian O'Reilly was delighted to see the rot stopped and admits it's getting difficult to leave the striker out.
"We'd had four bad results in a row and we badly needed that victory," he explained.
"For once our heads didn't go down and Lee Westwood's injury at half-time gave Jimmy his chance.
"He seems to know where the net is, I think that's eight off the bench for us now.
"Jimmy's got a load of character and he deserves everything that he gets.
"At the end of the day, he's come on and won us the game.
"When we won there, I thought they were a good side and I thought it would be tough again.
"If we can stay in the mix till Christmas, we'll be happy and we can push on from there."
Depending on Westwood's fitness, Costigan could get his start at the boss' old side Whitchurch Alport on Saturday, KO 2pm.
"They'll be up for it," added O'Reilly.
"It's what I'd call a derby game and there are a few Crewe lads up there playing for them.
"We need to get a result there."
