Houghton 12th in half marathon
WARRINGTON runners caught the eye in out-of-town events at the weekend.
Kenny Forster and Geoff Settle helped their team to 10th spot in the final stage of the Cheshire Corporate Challenge at the Rodeo Race Course in Chester.
Graham Houghton was 12th overall in 1hr 18mins 33secs in the Macclesfield Half Marathon. Other Warrington finishers were Dave Thompson, 1hr 46mins 1sec, Geoff Read, 1hr 57mins 58secs and Colin Martin, 2hrs 18mins 56secs.
Roberts on song
TOM Roberts won Fiddler's Ferry Sailing Club's Caldwell Cup after overtaking Clive Cartwright.
Roberts secured victory in his Krakin Cheese boat on the River Mersey after going past Cartwright's laser at Monks Bridge.
Classic title night
THE holder of the Carlsberg Classic bowls competition will be vying for the 2005 title when the finals day takes place at Pierpoints on Sunday from 4.30pm.
Ian Nicholson secured his place in the last eight after defeating Billy Farrell at the weekend, while Lancashire Merit winner Mike Burrows is also in the hunt.
Tommy Johnstone, Andy Cains, Barry Kirk and Charlie Bebbington will bid to qualify tonight, Thursday.
Swimmer close
ADEN Walker is closing in on 200 medals earned in his sport.
The 35-year-old Great Sankey swimmer took his tally to 195 with successes he recorded in the Blackpool Disability Gala.
Walker, who was competing in his first gala for almost two years, won gold medals at 25m and 50m in the backstroke, plus silver in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the relay.
Evening league
WARRINGTON Women's Evening Bowls League's delegates meeting will be held at Grange tonight, Thursday, at 7.30pm.
All trophies are to be handed in at the meeting, when presentation night tickets will be paid for and distributed.
Winter Sweep
