ANGRY parents and councillors have joined forces to condemn proposals to close Lodgefields County Primary School.

Under county council proposals, the school faces the axe due to falling pupil numbers and a surplus of class places.

Parents are outraged that the school's pupils would be expected to travel to schools at Wistaston Green or Underwood West.

The campaigners, led by a committee of 12 parents and backed by local councillors, have already collected well over 100 signatures against the closure.

Parent Carol Needham, who has two young daughters at the school, said: "We'll fight this all the way.

"My daughters would have to walk for 30 minutes to another school, and mornings are already stressful enough.

"They would be split up from their friends and are happy where they are."
