SUBSIDISED dog microchipping will be available in Earlestown market square next Wednesday.
Pet owners can have their dog microchipped by St Helens Council dog warden service, the Dogs Trust and the RSPCA on October 12.
The dog wardens collect over 400 stray dogs every year, but some of these dogs do not return home simply because their owner cannot be traced, even though it is a legal requirement that all dogs have to wear a collar and tag.
Clr Alma Atherton, executive member for environmental protection, said: "The chip, about the size of a grain of rice, is quickly implanted and carries a unique number that is recorded on a national data base.
"I would urge those who have not had this done to take advantage of this initiative."
If you would like to have your pet microchipped the RSPCA caravan will be at the market from 10am to 4pm.
The chipping costs £9.50; a contribution of which will be donated to the Dogs Trust, while for those on benefits (evidence will need to be produced) the procedure is free.
