COUNCILLORS have blocked plans to build stables in Stretton saying the building would spoil green belt.
Paul Clarkson, of Spark Hall Close, wanted to build stables on his land.
But members of the development control committee rejected the scheme after hearing appeals from residents and parish councillors.
Clr Peter Walker, borough councillor for the area, said: "The main attraction of this area is that it is in the green belt.
"A building of this size would completely destroy the area."
But Mr Clarkson said: "I am a family man and my children's interest in horses has been my main motivation for this application.
"I am certain this is a viable application."
But councillors blocked the plans because of the impact on the green belt and due to the size and scale of the application.
