A HOST of local bands is queueing up to take part in the Spike Island '06 rock festival.
Big Mouse, The Troubadours, Strider and Jonny Rocco are just some of the acts desperate to perform at the event, set to take place in May next year.
Adam Franklin, director of Surprisingly Good Events, said plans were under way for a series of 'Battle of the Bands' competitions in the region, with the winners clinching a place on the bill for the first day of the three-day festival.
Organisers hope to confirm some of the major acts taking part within the next few weeks but have conceded it is unlikely that Stone Roses legend Ian Brown will be persuaded to perform at the venue he helped put on the map.
Meanwhile, tickets are still available for the inaugural 'Laughterhouse' comedy night at the Bridge Suite, Halton Stadium on Thursday, October 6.
Comics lined up to appear include North West Comedian of the Year Jason Manford, Sean Percival, Mick Ferry and Greg Cook.
The show starts at 8pm and tickets can be purchased on the Laughterhouse hotline on 0870 20266339.
