WINSFORD United assistant manager Roy Sweeney believes the key to success this season will be to play every match as if the title depends on it.

Sweeney who, together with Dave Twite, has masterminded a remarkable turnabout in fortunes at Barton Stadium during the past two years, is determined to see the Blues win the North West Counties Division Two title this season.

Sweeney said: "Dave and I have been speaking to the team and we've told them they have to play each and every game this season as if they are playing for the league title.

"And we're really pleased at the moment with the way they have responded.

"They are fired up and are taking notice of what Dave and I say.

"We give them instructions and tell them how we want to play - then they go out on the pitch and do it.

"We had a blip a couple of weeks ago against Blackpool, but since then the attitude and level of performance has been excellent."

He added: "Everybody is playing to their full potential and it's difficult to say who our best players have been, but Neil Marsh, Dave Chambers, Mark Quinn and Lee Hughes have been outstanding."

And Sweeney is hoping Winsford's good form continues this weekend when they visit Cheadle Town.
