THE future looks more than rosy for a Middlewich event feted as the best community project in Cheshire.

The town's rose fete, resurrected last year after an absence of a decade, was awarded the Community Project Award at the Community Pride Awards, held at Ellesmere Port on Thursday.

This recognition came just a week after Middlewich was presented with three awards at the North West in Bloom competition.

Town councillor Jean Eaton, who re-established the traditional event, said: "When we were announced as the winners I just sat there - I couldn't believe it."

She added: "It's a real community thing so I'm glad it got the community project award - that's exactly what it is and I'm absolutely over the moon.

"We're lucky to have the support of the town council, Alan Shorrock and Sons, the Clean Team and other small businesses who have all been very supportive."

Town Mayor Chalky White said: "This award is a fantastic achievement and although there was a committee involved Jean did the most to get it resurrected."

Clr Eaton explained that she wanted to bring the rose fete back to the town to bring back tradition.

She said: "You can lose things in a community if you're not careful, that's why I thought I'd bring it back - you've got to have something for the young ones.

"I'm really excited about the award and it gives us an extra push for next year."

The rose fete committee is already looking for people who can help them plan next year's event and bring in some new ideas to expand it.
