CONCERNS have been raised over the length of time it is taking for broken street lights to be repaired on the Grange estate.

Town and borough councillors Peter Gannon and Des Worthington are worried that it is taking Cheshire County Council up to three months to repair the lights.

"There have been lights out on Nixon Drive for about three months but we are concerned about lighting all over the estate.

"It will be going dark early soon and we have pensioners and young children walking the streets.

"There are also problems with anti-social behaviour so we need the lights putting right."

Clr Worthington is also calling on the county council to address the problem of broken streetlights.

He said: "Cheshire County Council has been told time and time again about these problems.

"They say it's down to the contractor and out of their hands but there are six out on Nixon Drive and there are also problems at the Abbotts Way shops.

"Some lighting faults were reported in July and have only just been fixed this week.

"We have contacted Cheshire County Council on numerous occasions because this is unacceptable.

"If they have contractors then it is their duty to do the job or the council should get another contractor."

Clr Worthington is hoping all the lights on the Grange estate will be sorted before the nights close in.

He said: "Street lighting offers a lot of reassurance to people, especially elderly residents.

"It is extremely important that people feel safe and street lighting is a very important way of ensuring that."
