A PAIR of teenage car thieves from Winsford who have 'extensive' criminal records have been warned that they may be sent to prison.

The boys, aged 13 and 15, admitted taking a silver Fiesta from an address in Winsford on September 22 and were seen by police driving along Smoke Hall Lane in Moulton the day after.

The 15-year-old, who was driving the car, also admitted to driving while disqualified and having no insurance relating to the same incident.

The teenagers, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will be sentenced at a later court appearance to allow the preparation of pre-sentence reports.

Roger Badman, defending, said: "These two were not alone and police have been given the names of others involved and it appears they have not taken any action as they have these two.

"Clearly they both have extensive records despite their ages."

Kenneth Ashley, chairman of the bench, warned them both that they may be sent into custody.

He said: "We are going to ask the youth offending team to prepare a pre-sentence report and that will be an all options report.

"The next court may consider a custodial sentence."

Mr Ashley also asked the youth offending team to consider the possibility of an intensive supervision and surveillance programme (ISSP) for the 15-year-old, which is a direct alternative to custody.

Both boys will be sentenced on October 12 and were granted bail on the conditions they comply with a curfew order of 8pm to 7am and do not enter Moulton.

l BOTH boys appeared in Northwich Youth Court again on Monday after they were spotted driving a Ford Fiesta which had been stolen from Dene Drive on Friday.

The 15-year-old is alleged to have been driving the car in Moulton the following day, while the younger boy was a passenger in the vehicle.

The car was later left abandoned in Moulton.

The boys admitted breaching bail conditions imposed by magistrates two days earlier but denied the other charges.

Geoff Langham, chairman of the bench, adjourned both cases until today, Wednesday, when both boys will appear in Northwich Youth Court.

The 16-year-old, who was crying in court, was remanded in custody until today's hearing.

The 13-year-old was granted bail with the conditions he does not enter Moulton and does not breach a curfew of 7pm to 7am.
