PLANS for a controversial waste disposal site near to schools and a medical centre will go on display to the public this month.

Many people believe the facility, which may be built near to the Neuromuscular Centre, Hebden Green School and Woodford Lodge High School, would have serious health consequences.

Protesters are now encouraging as many people as possible to view the plans and lodge objections.

Sue Walker, from the Neuromuscular Centre, said: "We haven't been able to do very much so far but now we actually have a chance to take a look at the plans it gives us something to fight against.

"This waste site will bring noise, smells and traffic and I would encourage as many people as possible to come along.

"It is important that people do voice their opinions because I believe it could make all the different in getting these plans stopped."

Sue has already sent letters to MPs earlier this year, including Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, in an attempt to raise awareness of the waste facility.

She said: "We need to make everybody aware of the impact this is going to have.

"There are vulnerable children in schools and residents living nearby will be affected.

"I'm sure businesses will suffer too because traffic will also increase dramatically."

Letters have been sent to residents, organisations and businesses near to the proposed site informing them that the plans will be put on display but Sue is hoping to get the backing of the whole town.

She said: "I think when people actually get to see the plans it will hit home so it is important that they go along to take a look.

"There may also be landscapers and scientists on hand to answer our questions if we request them."

The plans will be displayed on October 17 and 18.
