CHESHIRE'S best bobbies will have the chance to shine at a glittering awards ceremony next month.
The top cops from the Western Area will battle it out with national competitors at the November 17 Jane's Police Review Gala Awards in London to claim recognition and certificates for their work from the Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP.
Former PC Ken Davies, who worked in the Congleton and Vale Royal area before retiring and taking up an Eastern Division staff member post, is short-listed for the lifetime achievement in policing award.
PC Dave Goodwin, based at Winsford HQ, is up for the probationer of the year award and Northwich's Insp Mark Watson and PC Peter Jones have been nominated for the diversity in action award for their work on traveller issues.
Ch Supt Tim Jackson, head of policing for the Western Area, said he is proud his officers' efforts have been noted.
He added: "These awards promote a positive side of police work which seldom gets the publicity it deserves. However I think it's important to point out the work of these officers is just a snapshot of the commitment and dedication that exists in Cheshire."
Senior representatives from a number of police organisations will decide the eventual winners and Crimewatch UK presenter Nick Ross will host the event.
