THE Guardian newsdesk has been making its own headlines, scooping four trophies at the Newsquest Cheshire and Merseyside Awards.
The Northwich, Winsford and Middlewich Guardians proved to be cream of the crop at this year's editorial awards, with three of the team picking up top honours in their categories.
Winsford reporter Philip Hennessey, who joined the newsdesk in February 2004, was named trainee reporter of the year while chief photographer Nick Jones claimed the photographer of the year honour and the runner up prize for sports photographer of the year.
Deputy editor Hayley Smith won two awards for page designer of the year and front page of the year, which told the story of Rebecca Watts and Sharon Pymer, who died from a rare form of leukaemia.
News editor Vivien Kandel was the runner up award in the reporter of the year section, while sports editor Glyn Hellam was runner up in the sports page designer category.
Guardian editor Keith Morris said: "I have always known we had some very talented journalists on our newspapers and I am delighted this has now been recognised."
