A TEENAGER has appeared in court after he headbutted a teacher as he was being escorted out of a Northwich school.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted the charge in Northwich Youth Court last Wednesday.

The incident took place at Cloughwood School, in Hartford, on June 10, when the boy was approached by a teacher who believed the defendant did not have permission to be in the school building.

Carolyn Viviani, prosecuting, said: "The teacher took hold of him by the arm.

"He moved his head backwards before headbutting him in the forehead.

"The defendant was interviewed and said he had been given permission to enter the building."

The teacher suffered bruising and blurred vision as a result.

Scott Harding, defending, said: "My client had been sitting an exam and had been given permission to get a drink - something Mr Prosser wasn't aware of.

"Any contact between my client was an impulsive action.

"The defendant does express remorse for any discomfort felt as a result."

Kenneth Ashley, defending, said: "We are concerned that this was a headbutt on your teacher and person of authority."

Mr Ashley adjourned the case for the preparation of pre sentence reports and indicated the boy would receive an action plan order. He will be sentenced on October 12.
