ANGRY Anderton residents say action must be taken at an accident blackspot after two serious motorcycle accidents in less than a week.

Four days after the death of Thomas Wyche at Soot Hill, a second male motorcyclist was injured in the area.

He was admitted to Warrington General Hospital after a collision between his blue Baimo bike and a Volvo car.

The accident, which took place on Uplands Road at 8.45am on Thursday, left him with a serious leg injury.

But residents say their calls for police to enforce the 30mph limit to speeding motorists have been repeatedly ignored.

One woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "Ask anyone in Anderton if something needs to be done about it and they'll say it does.

"The area is used as a main commuter route for the M56 and despite the fact we have a 30mph restriction in place, it just gets ignored.

"It takes something like a death to happen before anyone takes any notice."

The resident, who has children of her own, said the road problems are affecting quality of life in the village.

She added: "I cannot let my daughter go to the shop alone because she has to cross a busy road to do so.

"This is a residential area with lots of children and elderly people around and drivers don't take notice of that.

"All we want is people to be responsible and adhere to the speed limit.

"There is a large volume of traffic coming up and down by the Anderton Boat Lift day and night and it's about time the police took action to get the message across."
