Girl may go to jail for attack

A NORTHWICH teenager faces a possible prison sentence after a 'crazed' attack on a terrified train crew and three police officers with a car wheel brace.

The 17-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to a string of violence-related charges and to breaching bail when she appeared before magistrates at Northwich on Friday.

She had been arrested the night before when police found her drunk in public after her curfew had passed.

Karen Morgan-Reed, prosecuting, told the court that the girl and her friend screamed abuse at passengers on a train that pulled into Northwich railway station on August 1.

Miss Morgan-Reed said the girl hammered on the windows of a carriage and threatened the tra8in crew with a wheel brace and builders' trowel, forcing them back on to the train for their own safety.

Magistrates then heard how the girl and her friend ran away from police when they arrived at the scene and they were pursued to nearby Parkfield Road.

The three officers were kicked and hit several times with the wheel brace before they were finally able to handcuff the pair.

The girl continued to hurl abuse and spat at one officer on the journey to the police station.

Defending, Chris Johnson said: "My client is under no illusions that her sentence may be a custodial one, but I would ask you to consider carefully exactly what you are going to do to prevent her offending again."

Chairman of the bench Ruth Unsworth replied that magistrates would keep all options open and asked for a pre-sentence report.

She refused bail on the grounds that she believed the girl wouldn't abide by her bail conditions and that she would offend again if she were released.

The teenager has been remanded in custody to appear again today, Wednesday, at Northwich Youth Court.
