ON SATURDAY, Knutsford Rugby Club travelled to Broughton Park to take on the unbeaten league leaders.

After some good performances of late, Knutsford were confident that they could offer Park some stern opposition but nobody predicted a 31-0 whitewash which sees them move to second in the table.

With a fitter and younger side, Knutsford soon asserted themselves as favourites when the forwards began to make their weight count.

Knutsford were at least two stone per man heavier up front which was particularly apparent through their dominance in the scrum and at the breakdown.

The fierce back row of Parr, Coulbeck and Wolstencroft poured on the pressure and it was space created by the tireless work of the pack that enabled the dazzling Lockett to snap up two first half tries.

Knutsford led 10-0 at the break and in the second half a tiring Park made Knutsford's task somewhat easier.

Well-worked tries from McGuinness and Coulbeck and six further points from the boot of McGuinness extended the lead before Lockett rounded off a classy performance with his hat-trick.

Lockett's haul ensured that he snatched the lead in the scoring charts from the aging Owen as his tally moved on to six tries in just five appearances.

It was the first time Broughton had failed to score in more than two years.

Training takes place for seniors at Knutsford Leisure Centre on Wednesdays at 7.15pm and for juniors 5-16years at Knutsford Sports Club, Mereheath Lane, on Sundays from 10.30am to noon.

This week the first XV take on Didsbury Toc H at Mereheath Lane whilst the second XV travel to Lymm.

Both games kick off at 3pm.
