WEEK four of the Powergen North Two West league campaign brought Tyldesley to Burrows Hill on Saturday.

Having gained promotion last season, the north Lancashire side have yet to make an impression at this level and on Saturday were beaten 15-3.

Blustery conditions made fluid rugby difficult, but Winnington made all the early running and Mark Patterson made one telling break only to see possession turned over on the visitors' line.

However, after a series of rolling mauls the visitors were caught offside and Gary Bell kicked a 30 metre penalty to make the score 3-0.

On 25 minutes Park were awarded another penalty for offside, but Bell kicked narrowly wide.

Winnington continued to dominate the line out and, from a throw on the visitors' five metre line, the forwards combined well and drove over the line to allow John Piggott to touch down. Bell's conversion attempt failed.

Immediately from the kick off Tyldesley were awarded a penalty for obstruction and stand off Ashley Worsfield reduced the arrears to 8-3.

As half time approached Park continued to press hard with driving rucks and mauls.

Referee Andy Hewells finally lost patience with the visitors' spoiling tactics and back row forward Adam Featherstone was sin binned for killing the ball.

From the next lineout deep in the visitors' half, Park drove Andy Barnes over the line for the second try, which Bell converted, to make the score 15-3 at half time.

The second half was utterly forgettable with Winnington continuing to dominate both scrum and line out, but, battling against an ever increasing wind, they found it difficult to create any clear cut scoring chances.

Both sides missed penalty opportunities and apart from that very little creative rugby was played.

This Saturday, Park are away at Widnes in the league with kick off at 3pm.

On Tuesday, October 11, Park face Bowdon in the quarter final of the Cheshire Cup, kick off 8pm at Heywood Road, Sale.
