SAVING lives prompted a unique road safety awareness day.
Powerful images of mangled, twisted wreckages of car crashes in Widnes, which left people maimed, injured or dead, were on display.
"We have had an excellent response," said firefighter Andy Royle, who organised the event. "Anything we can do to make people more aware of the dangers could save lives.
"Even minor bumps can leave motorists injured and tie up the resources of the emergency services."
Firefighters joined forces with Cheshire Police, Halton Road Safety Partnership and Halton Council to mount displays outside Morrisons.
They hope to repeat the exercise throughout the year.
