My football team is bottom of the League. You don't get any lower than bottom of League Two.
We are bottom of the lowest league.
If we are there come the end of the season then non-league football beckons. Of course, much worse things happen in life. It is after all only football and some terrible things are happening around the world.
Yet as a fan I am affected by our poor run of late and as club chaplain it has consequences for the people I minister to. The manager has been sacked, a sadly common occurrence in professional football.
He was a really nice bloke and I felt had done a tremendous job on a very limited budget. But recent results were against him and in football results seem to be everything.
The directors of course made the decision. They too are people I like.
I might disagree as a fan with their decision but I still have to maintain a working relationship with them as chaplain.
Then, of course, there are the players.
Almost to a man they are sad to lose their gaffer.
Such issues face many of us at work.
Being a Christian at work is full of complex issues.
They are no different in the office or the factory than they are on the football field or in the boardroom.
