FIREFIGHTERS have hailed the success of their latest campaign to remove faulty and dangerous electric blankets from the borough's households.
The response to this month's two-week campaign has overwhelmed fire chiefs, with 101 blankets being taken to drop-off points for free testing by Middlewich firm IMOTEC UK.
A startling 76 blankets failed their safety test and have now been replaced free of charge.
Firefighter Pete Shields said: "The campaign has been a tremendous success.
"The response was fantastic, largely thanks to the article that appeared in the Guardian to highlight the campaign.
"We increased our budget so they we could provide everyone whose blanket failed the test with a new one free of charge."
